The Bedrock Literacy Curriculum

Introducing a new curriculum designed for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students. This curriculum develops English literacy skills from a starting point that makes sense to the student who has not had full access to English.

This curriculum is written to provide the student with a way to begin learning how English works. Though it was developed with beginning young literacy users in mind it is also applicable for a student of any age who has significant gaps in his foundational understanding of English.

This curriculum is written to provide foundational language and literacy experiences to all Deaf and Hard of Hearing students regardless of language use. Though many of the activities are based on the student who uses ASL, they are also applicable for those students who use Spoken English. Often students who use Spoken English also exhibit gaps in their foundational understanding of English. This curriculum is intended to build a firm foundation on which true understanding and competencies are founded.
